What does it mean to be a part of a community?

Recently, while browsing some topics on The Special's forum,
I came across a repost about a boy named Adam from Edinburgh, Scotland. Adam has Pontine Glioma, a form of brain cancer so rare that only 40 cases are diagnosed each year, globally. Because Potine Glioma occurs around the brain stem, it is inoperable...and incurable.

Adam is 5 years old.

So, what does it mean to be a part of a community?

To me, it means, when someone is faced with an extraordinary plight, that they, eventhough they are half a world away, are not alone.
